Ruth Tan Lim, M.D., M.D.(h), F.A.A.P Board Member Board Member Since: 2000 Dobson Pediatrics Center P.A. Pediatrician Email: milnat02@yahoo.com |
Dr. Ruth Tan Lim was born in Malaysia and educated in Singapore. Her large family placed great value on their children’s education so they would grow to be contributing members of society. Growing up, she worked very hard, advanced to the top of her class and continued on to graduate with a Medical degree from the University of Singapore. As a young doctor in Singapore she accompanied a sick child to New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. There, she impressed the doctors, and was impressed with the research and medicine practiced at the hospital. That experience motivated Dr. Lim to make America her home. A year later she was back in the U.S. working at Sloan, continuing her medical training, and passing the medical boards.
Dr. Ruth Tan Lim has been extremely proactive in not only taking on volunteer leadership roles in community organizations such as Parenting Arizona, but additionally creating her own mission through establishing The Children Benefit Foundation in 1992. Dr. Lim’s Children’s Benefit Foundation organizes and funds programs to promote community non-violence. The Foundation is part of the international Peace Pole Project. They have planted peace poles at schools, churches, domestic violence shelters and even in front of Parenting Arizona offices in Phoenix and Tuba City. Each side of a Peace Pole shouts out May Peace Prevail on Earth in four different languages.
Dr. Lim has funded community based parenting education classes since 2009 in Maricopa County to promote healthy parenting among individuals raising children. The classes are consistently taught with evidence based materials that have been proven effective. The parent education classes can be life changing for the members as they learn positive and collaborative methods to best deal with their children and parents. Dr. Lim provides free medical services to Parenting Arizona’s clients residing in the Southeast Maricopa region throughout the year. This service is provided through Dr. Lim’s charitable organization, Children’s Benefit Foundation. This medical program benefits children from families of the working poor with no medical resources.
